I drink at least two cups of tea every, single morning because I hate the taste of coffee, and I need caffeine in order to function. CNN is reporting about a new study that finds that drinking tea has been linked to an increased risk for cancer.

Dr. Farhad Islami, who is the lead author for the study, said that the tea consumed had to be at least 140 degrees Fahrenheit (or 60 degrees Celsius) for there to be that 90% higher risk of esophageal cancer. Consuming tea at cooler temperatures did not show the same risk for cancer of the esophagus.

While it looks like the temperature of the tea is what is the most important factor in your risk for cancer, that probably means that iced tea is safe. So as the temperature is getting warmer with us officially in Spring, hopefully I can swap out my hot morning tea for a cooler alternative like iced tea.
