Are You Suffering From Choice Overload?
Are too many options starting to stress you out? Can Oreo cookies please go back to having two options: original and double stuffed? Bustle has found that when it comes to decision-making, sometimes more choices is not better.
Choice overload is when the brain struggles to make a choice because there are too many options to decide from. A study that was published in Nature Human Behavior found that when participants had to make a choice that had some sort of consequence, they struggled much more than if there was no consequence to their decisions.
For example, choosing a flavor of jam would offer little repercussions versus choosing a logo to go on a shirt that would then be mass-produced would offer participants a much bigger dilemma.
So while not having a choice may be frustrating, it's looking like having one too many choices is also incredibly difficult for us to process and decide upon.
