Weddings are becoming more and more expensive, and as of last year, the average cost of a wedding was $35,000. Brit.Co explains why millennials are going the more nontraditional route when it comes to weddings.

More than any other generation, millennials are opting for meaning and purpose with their wedding ceremonies and receptions. Whether this means a courthouse wedding to save on money or any other nontraditional choice for their "I Do" moments.

Millennial couples are choosing to spend their money on lasting and valuable memories instead of a one-day fanfare event of a big wedding. Couples now don't want to go into debt for a wedding.

Traveling post-wedding is ultimately what a lot of couples are choosing to spend their money on instead of the big day affair of a wedding with 300-plus in attendance. It may not be something for everyone, but it is something to take into account because the cost of a wedding is skyrocketing year after year.
