My fiancé and I already have one dog, but I really, really want to get another dog. Bustle, and Elisabeth Geier of Rover.com, explains all of what you should expect in your new dog's first year of life.

  • You're going to have to exercise patience and a lot of it when you first get a puppy as they will be getting into a lot of trouble as they learn the lay of the land both in life and in your home.
  • You will be sleep deprived just as you would with a new baby. Dogs don't sleep through the night like we do, so be prepared to have to take them outside a couple of times every night.
  • Dogs are expensive not only just to purchase your puppy themselves, but the shots that they need to receive in their first year, the food, treats, crate and everything else that goes along with having a pet.

I don't want to dissuade anyone from getting a new dog, but it's always good to be aware of what to expect when getting a new puppy.
