Don't you hate it when someone takes forever to respond to your text message!? Bustle, and dating and relationship expert Anita A. Chlipala, explains that there are some things we can tell ourselves to help us feel less anxious while we wait for a text back.

  • "They're busy" which is probably true nine times out of ten especially if you know that they're at work or in class right now. Give it an hour or so. If they are in a work meeting, a class, or dealing with some sort of personal crisis, they'll probably look at their phone within the next hour and get back to you.
  • "I am great!" should be a mantra for most of us because we definitely rely too much on how others view us instead of how we view ourselves. Remind yourself that even if this particular person isn't that into you, you love yourself, and that's what really matters.
  • "It's time to go outside" if you really can't stop reloading your messages waiting for this other person to text you back. Put your phone down and go outside to catch some sun. Relax a little by taking a short walk around the neighborhood. It feels good to step away from technology for a little while sometimes.

Whatever happens with your text message and if it turns into anything more or not, remember that while you may like this other person, their opinion of you is not the most important thing in the world. Love yourself first.
