The Health Benefits of Baths
I know that it's in the 80s today, so the idea of dipping into a hot bath is the last thing that you're probably thinking about today. Despite this, Bustle explains that there are some great health benefits to taking baths.
- Baths can relieve skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema. The heat soothes the skin, and many doctors will prescribe oiled baths as a way to relieve irritation and moisturize the skin.
- Hot baths before bed can help with better sleep because of the temperature adjustment as it can make you feel sleepy before even getting into bed. Starting the process of getting tired before crawling into bed can help you fall asleep faster and have a better night's sleep.
- Steam can reduce cold symptoms as inhaling the steam from the hot bath can help to clear your nasal passages and reduce inflammation when you're feeling miserable. Increasing your temperature in the bath can actually help your immune system function more efficiently which can help to fight off infections.
It may feel like it's too hot outside to take a bath tonight, but if you're feeling stressed, as though you can't sleep, or have a cold coming on, consider a hot bath to help you feel better and help you to get the sleep you need.
