When you and your partner gravitate out of the "honeymoon phase" of your relationship, you might worry that you two will get bored of each other and move on. Bustle and licensed professional counselor Natalie Nesbitt, MS, NCC, explain that there are ways to tell if your partner and your relationship will just get better with age.

  • They are honest and don't beat around the bush when there is an issue. Letting it all bottle up when there is a problem instead of being direct and honest can hurt a relationship. Honesty and communication can help to insure a long relationship with your partner.
  • They take care of their own physical and mental health which is so, so important. You and your partner should both be whole individuals in a relationship together... not 50% of a person trying to "complete" each other because if your partner doesn't do exactly what you need them to then you won't feel whole. You need to be whole on your own first.
  • They continue to date you as that can keep things fun and exciting, and can help you feel wanted and loved. Date nights usually go by the wayside the longer a couple has been together, but make a point to go out on a date every once in a while.

I can't predict the future, but there are definitely to tell if you and your partner are both in this for the long haul.
