Despite my better judgments, I use my phone as an alarm in the morning and therefore sleep with it next to me at night. Unsurprisingly, I find myself laying in bed most nights on my phone when I can't sleep. Which certainly hurts my ability to sleep more than helps me.

The fear of missing out on something that is happening on social media is a real problem for a lot of people, and feeling the need to be available 24 hours a day, can hurt your sleep. Waking up and having multiple notifications can make you feel terrible for "missing out", but you have to remember that everyone has to sleep, and those trying to reach out to you have to be understanding of that.

The blue light from your phone can also work to keep you awake. It should be another reason why you (and I) should start putting our phones in a different room while we sleep, but it is much easier to say that we will than actually do it. Changing up the routine slowly can certainly help. Maybe try it one night a week, and if you feel like it's helping, try more and more nights until you permanently keep your phone in a different room overnight.
