Deposit Homeowner Discovers Fire in Basement

Broome County Emergency Services officials say a homeowner noticed fire in the basement of their home on Pine Street in Deposit and called the fire department.

The blaze at around 7:43 p.m. May 18, however, quickly resulted in a second alarm being sounded.

There were no injuries.

The cause is under investigation but early reports indicate the fire may have been the result of an electrical problem.

Firefighters from Deposit, Windsor, Handcock and Harpursville were among the departments responding with others standing by at their fire stations.

Crews were on the scene for about an hour-and-a-half.
