Trooper Ryan Thorp Released from Hospital a Week After Being Shot

A New York state trooper who was wounded when a man fired a gun in Deposit has been released from the hospital.

Authorities say Trooper Ryan Thorp left Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City Wednesday.

Thorp was in a wheelchair as he exited the hospital and was met by several other state troopers along Baldwin Street. After a few seconds, he got out of the wheelchair and walked down the sidewalk to greet his colleagues.

Thorp sustained arm injuries when he was shot on Sunrise Terrace around 9 p.m. June 23.

44-year-old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack on Thorp.
