When some things happen to you (intentionally or not) it is hard not to take them too seriously. Bustle says that you shouldn't be so sensitive about some things that happen to you (but I understand that that is easier said than done).

  • Rejection whether romantically or professionally, you will deal with some sort of rejection at some point in your life. It's hard not to see that as a personal attack from the other person or from that company. It could be something that someone else had, not necessarily something that you didn't have.
  • Friends making plans without you is something that I can personally relate to because why were you not invited?! More likely than not it was an oversight and not anything intentional. However, if you suspect that they were being intentional and hurtful, then you should ask them.
  • Bad grades from a professor can also hit you incredibly close to the heart when you feel like you worked really hard at on particular paper or project. Remember though that one bad grade is not a reflection on your intelligence or how successful you will be later in life. It happens to the best of us sometimes.

It can be hard not to take everything seriously, but one-off comments or one oversight from a friend should not cause your self-esteem to come crumbling down. If you're sensing a pattern from people, then ask questions, but otherwise, don't let it bother you too much.
