The village in which I grew up was so small that it seemed everyone knew everyone else. My school was about a mile from my house and let me tell you what, if I did something I should have been doing on the walk to or from school, even if I varied my route, my mom knew about it before my hand even touched the front doorknob.

There's something special about small-town living and if you've been thinking about transitioning to small-town life, you're in luck because City Data just released a list of the smallest towns in New York and there are a few towns right here in the Southern Tier. The criteria to make the list was simple - the town had to have less than 1,000 residents.

The Southern Tier of New York consists of eight counties in Upstate New York, Those counties are Broome, Tioga, Tompkins, Otsego, Cortland, Delaware, Schoharie, and Chenango, and is filled with lovely little towns.
