Ten People Homeless Following Johnson City House Fire

Several children and adults required shelter in the aftermath of a blaze that heavily damaged an apartment building in Johnson City.

The Red Cross has assisted four families who were displaced by the Friday afternoon fire at 48 Farr Avenue on the village's South Side. Four children and six adults were being helped by the agency.

Fire marshal Paul Hlebica said no injuries were reported to residents or first responders.

Smoke and water damage was reported throughout the three-and-a-half story wood-frame structure.

The second and third floors sustained fire damage. The most severe damage occurred to the attic portion of the building.

Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.

Hlebica said the cause of the fire was still undetermined, although it did not appear to be suspicious at this time. He said investigators plan to conduct additional interviews.
