NYSEG and Red Cross Prepare for Tropical Storm Isaias
New York State Electric and Gas says it’s ready for any power problems the progress of Tropical Storm Isaias may throw at the region.
The subsidiary of AVANGRID, Incorporated says it was especially concerned about rain and wind to the east of the Southern Tier with a greater impact expected in the Westchester, Hudson Valley, Catskill and Capital Region service areas where wind gusts had a potential to reach up to 50 miles per hour.
Meanwhile, the American Red Cross says the coronavirus pandemic is complicating lining up volunteers to deal with the impact of the tropical storm. Volunteers are needed for local assistance, shelters and health services support.
Anyone interested in helping can go to redcross.org/volunteer.
Local emergencies also continue to be addressed by the Red Cross. The Southern Tier Chapter responded to 22 fires in July and assisted 121 people in 38 families.
People can also help the Red Cross by making donations to support Disaster Relief. Donations can be made at redcross.org, by calling 1-800-REDCROSS or by making a $10 contribution by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999.
