Utilities in NY and Pa. Say Power Restoration Nears Completion

Thousands of New York State Electric and Gas customers in the Southern Tier of New York and First Energy-PennElec customers in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania remain without power April 22, going on four days after a late-season heavy snowstorm snapped trees and brought down power lines.

NYSEG is estimating power restoration time for the majority of its remaining affected customers by 11 p.m. April 22.

Chenango County at 7 a.m. April 22 had more customers without power at close to 4,900 than Broome County, which had over 3,500 customers without electricity, most of those in Harpursville, Nineveh and Port Crane.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says this is the worst power-related incident in Broome County history. Residents in Deposit are still being told to boil their water and dry ice and water distributions will be resuming around Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties.

For residents in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, the First Energy/Penn Electric website was showing around 7-dozen customers still without power and were anticipating a restoration time of 2 p.m. Friday, April 22.

Spectrum Cable has also been busy putting wires back up and that work is expected to continue through the weekend.

There are still reports of low hanging and downed wires as well as wires arcing. No one should approach a downed wire. Always assume it is and electric line and that it is live and report it immediately to authorities.
