Police have taken a suspect into custody after gunshots were fired during a dispute involving several people in Johnson City.

19-year-old Jean Cabellero Guzman of Johnson City has been charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and obstructing governmental administration.

Village police were called to Broad Street between Main Street and Corliss Avenue around 9:05 p.m. Thursday when people in the neighborhood heard several shots.

Guzman was apprehended near the Binghamton University Pharmacy School on Corliss Avenue following a foot pursuit and struggle.

Johnson City police chief Brent Dodge said a patrol officer sustained a leg injury. He was not transported to a hospital.

Dodge said Guzman was evaluated by medics at the scene for apparently minor injuries.

The police chief said a loaded revolver was recovered when Guzman was taken into custody.

Dodge said investigators believe several people may have been involved in a dispute in the street before the gunshots were fired.

Detectives are seeking a possible second shooter in the case. People with information may contact Johnson City police at (607) 729-9321.
