Johnson City Man Charged in Stabbing at Village Residence
A man was repeatedly stabbed and slashed by a person wielding a large piece of glass during a disturbance in Johnson City.
Village police said officers were sent to a residence on Pratt Avenue around 11 a.m. Sunday to investigate a reported domestic dispute. Police were advised that a man was armed with a knife.
Investigators said when officers entered the residence, they observed 31-year-old David Maiella attacking a man with the piece of glass. Officers took Maiella into custody without further incident.
The man who was being attacked sustained several stab and slash wounds. A young child in the residence at the time of the disturbance was hurt from falling. Those who were injured were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment.
Police determined Maiella had menaced a woman with a knife before he attacked the man. Officers recovered the shard of glass and the knife that were used during the dispute.
Maiella was charged with felony counts of first-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He also was charged with misdemeanor counts of second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
Maiella was arraigned and ordered held in Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson.
