How to Deal With Heartache On Valentine’s Day
February 14th is the day to celebrate love. With that day coming up, it can cause some anxiety for you if you're dealing with heartache and you don't know how you will be able to handle Valentine's Day. There are some things you can do to hopefully lessen the blow of the occasion.
- Nurture the relationship you have with yourself as you might not be up for hanging out with others on this day, so it might be a good idea to have a self-care day. Order food in, watch a completely unromantic movie, take a bubble bath and go to bed early. Make the day about you instead of those around you.
- Plan a date night with a friend if you feel comfortable to take the holiday head-on. Get together with a single friend of yours, exchange flowers and chocolates and take advantage of the Valentine's Day specials at a restaurant that you both like. It might be your best date ever because there's no pressure! It's all fun!
- Volunteer and spend the day with those who may not have anyone. Call a local nursing home and see if you can sit with some of the residents and talk to them for a few hours. Or go to the Humane Society and play with the dogs and cats who are looking for love!
While we're all used to Valentine's Day meaning to be spent with someone romantically, there are so many other kinds of love worth celebrating and you can use this day to acknowledge them.
