Good government groups say the conviction of a former close aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo on corruption charges again shows how badly reform is needed in Albany at the highest levels.

Joseph Percoco was convicted March 13 of two counts of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and one count of soliciting bribes after being accused of taking $300,000 dollars from interests with business before the state.

In the past, Governor Cuomo had described Percoco as like “a brother.”  The Governor was not implicated in the corruption case and the Democrat was not asked to testify.

Reclaim New York Director Brandon Muir says residents deserve answers to questions raised by the case about government integrity.

New York State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan issued a statement saying his has faith in the justice system.  The republican said it was unfortunate when a person in government is found guilty of such charges but he believes there are a lot of good people still in government, working for the state and their communities.

Flanagan says he continues to advocate for more transparency and disclosure in government operations.
