UPDATE: Snow and Frostbite Danger in Parts of Central New York and Southern Tier

 Some parts of the Southern Tier and Central New York are bracing for a cold night while more snow is predicted.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon January 29 for Tioga, Chenango, Tompkins and Cortland Counties with a chance of 3-6 inches of snow as well as winds that were recorded at the Greater Binghamton Airport at 11 a.m. January 28 at 43 mph that can cause blowing snow and reduced visibility on roadways.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 10 p.m. January 28 to 11 a.m. January 29 for Chenango, Cortland and Delaware Counties.  Broome and Tioga and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania are not under the advisory at this time.

Officials say temperatures in the low teens paired with winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour could result in wind chills of minus 15 to minus 24 degrees in the advisory areas.

Wind chills in that range could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

People venturing out in the cold should dress in layers and cover all skin including heads, hands, ears and noses and make sure you have warm blankets, gloves, scarves and hats in your vehicle in case of a breakdown.
