I hate to be that person, but can we admit that there are some foods that we should not be eating? Bustle and Dr. Will Cole, a functional medicine practitioner, agree that some foods out on the market have ingredients that can do damage to our bodies.

  • Refined sugar can hurt our bodies in so many ways because consuming it can cause our immune systems to go into overdrive and that can directly damage our intestines. Simple sugars can feed bacteria and yeast in our bodies as well which can lead to infections.
  • Artificial food additives like the food coloring in all of the Easter candy we will likely be eating this weekend, release free radicals into our bodies that can damage our cells (this is called oxidative stress). Eating foods with natural colors and no additives of any kind is definitely the better route.
  • Trans fats increase inflammation in the body, and it has even been linked to depression. Using more single ingredient foods instead of "man-made" foods can help to reduce your trans fats intake and hopefully help you to feel a lot better!

Refined sugar and other "tasty" foods can be delicious, but we definitely eat junk food in excess, and that just is not healthy. Single ingredient, more natural foods can only do our bodies well, so try to incorporate healthier foods into your next meal.
