In Broome, 53 cases have been reported, many coming earlier this month.

The New York State Health Department reports as of December 27, 58 counties in the state had reported confirmed cases of influenza with only Wyoming, Yates, Seneca and Hamilton Counties flu-free.

363 people had been hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed cases since Christmas Eve.  That's a 41% increase from the week before.  Over 1,300 people have ended up in the hospital because of flu this season, which will continue into the spring months.

Health officials urge everyone over the age of 6 months to be vaccinated against the flu.
