One of my New Year's resolutions this year was to drink more water. I had a few other resolutions, but this is one that I think I stuck to most this year. Now, though, I've been wondering, am I drinking too much water? Here's how you can tell if you are drinking too much water as well.

  • You're cramping which I always thought was a sign of dehydration, but it's not! Using the restroom too often can likely cause a loss of potassium (and other vitamins and minerals) and potassium is necessary for muscle contraction and relaxation.
  • You're tired and you slept a full night's worth of sleep. When you drink too much water, your kidneys have to work overtime, and with that overtime comes a rise in stress hormones.
  • Headaches come with drinking too much water because there is a sodium imbalance in your body and that will cause your cells to swell... including brain cells. Swelling in your brain will naturally cause headaches.

It's so important to drink enough water, but it's also important to not drink too much water as well.
