Vestal Police Get New Four-Legged Officer
Vestal Police have a new K-9 on the force that is NOT a shepherd breed that is traditionally trained in police work. Officials are announcing the addition of K-9 Grizz to the force.
Grizz is a German Shorthair Pointer trained to detect drugs. He is training with handler, Officer Katirae Smith.
According to a posting on facebook by the Vestal Police, Grizz was born in Hungary and brought from Holland to the United States by the charity BlueStreak K9 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The group provides law enforcement training for police and law enforcement dogs.
The 17-month-old pointer was named by the students of the 2021 Vestal Police Academy and will soon be putting paws to pavement on the streets of the Town of Vestal.
The Vestal Elk’s Club will hold a Firehouse Subs Food Truck fundraiser that will partially benefit the K-9 team October 11-16 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
