Some of our older Broome County residents have family and friends to help them when they need it, but a good many don't. Those who have no one to turn to are always welcome to reach out to the Broome County Council of Churches' branch of the Faith In Action Volunteers program.

Faith in Action empowers those aged 60 and older in our community to be active, engaged, and involved. Faith In Action firmly believes that our older residents deserve to maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life, and with help from Faith In Action, they can.

Broome County residents ages 60 and older are able to use the resources of Faith In Action for many things from getting a ride to and from medical appointments, help with grocery shopping, house cleaning, outdoor chores, accessibility ramp building, and more.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Faith In Action had to cancel its yearly Dining for Dollars fundraiser. But, instead of sitting back and accepting defeat, the Faith In Action team has come up with a new way to raise much-needed funds so that they can continue their mission to assist our older residents.

On Thursday, October 1, Faith In Action will be hosting a Dialing for Dollars Phonathon fundraiser where clergy and special guests will be making phone calls from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to accept donations from our community to benefit the Faith in Action program. I am proud to say that I will be one of those making calls and accepting donations.

A $20 donation provides ingredients for four people to attend Chop & Chat, a $40 donation provides materials to build one foot of a wheelchair ramp, and $60 to $100 donation helps with administrative expenses such as database upkeep, printings and mailings, online grocery shopping, and more. All donations to the Faith In Action Dialing for Dollars are tax-deductible.

If you would like your name and phone number to be added to the Dialing for Dollars Phonathon call list, please call 607-724-9130 ext. 318 by Monday, September 28.
