Thousands Available to Expand Child Care for Working Families in Broome
More money is coming to the area to help open up more spots in child care programs, easing the pressure on parents who need to work.
New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and the Family Enrichment Network have announced $20,000 in funding to add 60 more slots in certified child care in the area.
Without certification, a child care provider can only take care of two children. With state certification, up to eight children can be enrolled in a program.
It’s estimated over 1,500 children could be placed in childcare, freeing their parents to pursue jobs.
Officials say a shortage of child care for working parents is one of the biggest problems facing the local workforce.
