Another Broome County resident has died due to Covid-19 as dozens of new coronavirus cases are being reported daily.

County Executive Jason Garnar on Wednesday morning said a woman in her 80s is the latest local resident whose death is attributed to the coronavirus. She is the 354th Broome resident to die due to Covid-19.

Garnar said 37 new positive cases were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the county to 217. He said that's a 600 percent increase in cases over the last month. 15 Broome County residents are hospitalized as a result of Covid-19.

The county executive said most of the current spread of the virus is linked to the Delta variant. He said most of the new cases are occurring in people who have not been vaccinated.

Garnar said he is strongly urging people to wear masks even if they have received a Covid vaccine. He also said people who are sick should stay home and seek medical guidance.
