Broome and Chenango Add to COVID-19 Death Toll
Broome County on Friday, October 1 announced another death from the coronavirus pandemic, a woman in her 80s, bringing the county death toll for the week to nine. Broome has had 384 lives lost to the pandemic. Chenango County also reported an additional death Friday, bringing their death toll to 85.
On October 1, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar updated residents on the pandemic saying there had been 91 new cases recorded on September 30 with 684 active cases and 40 residents hospitalized, but that’s a 17 percent decrease from the previous week.
The Executive says of the entire population of Broome County, including those who are not eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, 62 percent have been at least gotten their first dose while 58 percent of all residents have completed their vaccine series.
Chenango County reported 22 new cases in the Friday update and said there were 116 active cases.
Cortland County had 23 new cases with 160 active. The death toll remained at 74. Delaware County had 46 new cases since the last report on September 29 with the death toll remaining at 54. Tioga County had 93 new cases and the death toll remained at 68.
