Nobody Should Go Cold This Winter and You Can Help Make Sure of That
The United Way of Broome County is on a mission to make sure that no resident of our community has to struggle with being cold this winter but they need our help to make that a reality.
Through December 31, the United Way of Broome County is collecting a variety of winter apparel items and then those items will be given to the following agencies so that they can distribute them to our neighbors with the most need: "Deposit area helping programs, First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City, Mother Teresa’s Pantry, Whitney Point Senior Center, and Mothers & Babies."
How can you help? Look through your closet for winter-type apparel and if you no longer need it and it's in excellent or new condition, you can drop it off at the United Way of Broome County which is located at 101 South Jensen Road in Vestal. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The United Way of Broome County is looking specifically for these items: earmuffs, gloves, hats, mittens, neckies (neck warmers similar to a gaiter but heavier weight), scarves, socks. If you don't have any of those items but still want to do something to help, gift certificates to stores where winter-wear can be purchased are also welcome.
The United Way has also put together an Amazon Wish List, so while you're doing your online holiday shopping, if you'd like to purchase an item or two from this list, Amazon will take care of shipping the things directly to the United Way.
