Several recent snowmobile crashes in New York State, including a fatality in Oxford January 30th, are prompting the Department of Environmental Conservation to issue a safety reminder to riders.

The DEC says snowmobilers should wear helmets, stay on designated trails and make sure the ice is thick enough before going over frozen waters.

Two Western New York brothers died when their snowmobiles went through thin ice on an Adirondack lake.

On January 31, 54 year old Michael Buchanan of Bainbridge died when he was ejected from his machine after it hit a guiderail off Quarry Road in Oxford.

A few days before that, a 40 year old man died in a snowmobile crash in the Adirondacks.
