The Southern Tier continues to anticipate the warm spring weather that we are way overdue for. Over the last couple of days the sunshine has been deceiving but Binghamton is holding onto hope that the temps will warm up and that means we’ll be seeing that white stuff floating in the air real soon. No, we’re not talking about snow (no more please), but rather, pollen.

Although we’re all ready for the spring weather let’s not forget that means allergy season is right around the corner too. These indoor allergens including mold and dust could be invading your home. Gross!

The change of seasons can be brutal on our bodies so what are some tips to rid your home of allergens? Here are some tips to try!

Fan Away Mold: Moisture can easily lead to mold especially in the bathroom during those hot showers or when your toilet sweats. To stay on top of the mold build-up, turn on the vent fan during your shower. Another tip: crack open the door or window during your hot shower to reduce moisture and mold as well.

Take Sanitary Action: Grab a clean sheet to cover up your bedding and other furniture to reduce dust mites and pet dander. Another tip: wash your sheets at least once a week.

Vacuum: Vacuuming removes a great amount of allergens and captures them before they can float back into the air.

Stuffed Animals: Wash your children’s stuffed animals. They are dust collectors and full of allergens. The ones they don’t play with as much put in a plastic bag to reduce the dust.

Remove Your Shoes: Leaving your shoes by the front door to eliminate pollen and leaf mold from coming into your home.

Allergens can cause sneezing, wheezing and head congestion. Don’t risk be miserable when it finally warms up. Take the precautions and feel good this spring.
