There are some topics that you should never bring up at work, regardless if you're a boss or an intern. Brit.Co explains that there are a few conversations that are just too taboo for the workplace.

  • Your sex life which should be a no-brainer for you, but some people don't always know that. It may make others in your general vicinity to hear all about your nights about the town.
  • Your medical conditions (that are not relevant to your job performance), so if you have to take some time off for a surgery, definitely bring that up at an appropriate time, but if you have an ingrown toenail, and you just want to complain about it, please, refrain.
  • If you are interviewing for another job elsewhere because that will show less dedication to your current employer and make others who may love their jobs where you are feel bad if you're talking about some great new opportunity.
  • Your political views, everyone is allowed to have an opinion in politics, but you should try to avoid getting into heated debates at the water cooler. It may get in the way of work productivity, and that hurts everyone at the company.

If you want to invite co-workers out for a drink after work to talk politics or sex, feel free to, but within the cubicle walls, it may be best to keep conversations to work, family and (PG-rated) fun.
