When it comes to holiday bonuses, or year-end bonuses if you will, they vary widely between big companies, and small companies. Some small businesses can't really afford to do much at all. There are some companies that give out a turkey or a ham as a bonus and others that reward their employees with money.

There is one company in Baltimore, Maryland that made a surprise announcement at their holiday party this week, declaring that they will be splitting 10 million dollars in bonuses with their staff.

According to Fox 5 San Diego, St John Properties, is one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the Mid-Atlantic. In the video you see that each employee was handed a red envelope and told not to open it until they were told to do so. The company founder and chairperson Edwards St John thanked them for helping the company reach a huge milestone before informing them of the bonus, and then told them to open their envelopes.

According to the report, St John Properties employees 198 people and that the bonuses will be divvied up based on years of service. The report said the average employee will be receiving $50,000. That's on top of their other benefits including the company's annual year-end bonus.

The company founder and chairperson Edwards St John was quoted by Fox 5 as saying,

To celebrate the achievement of our goal, we wanted to reward our employees in a big way that would make a significant impact on their lives. I am thankful for every one of our employees, for their hard work and dedication. I couldn’t think of a better way to show it.
