Caitlyn Jenner on Kris Jenner Family Drama: ‘I’m Sorry She Went Down That Road’
Two years after Caitlyn Jenner first announced she was a trans woman, the decorated athlete is looking back at her journey, and told Good Morning America today (April 24) that in spite of the speed bumps, she's sure she's on the right road.
Jenner, whose The Secrets of My Life is now available, said she didn't necessarily mean to be such a visible face of the LGBTQ community, but that she simply couldn't hide away from paparazzi.
"I think over the past two years I have opened up a conversation about a very marginalized community and I'm very proud of that," she said. "I really had no choice but to come out publicly just because the tabloids and the media were destroying me for so long...I've worked hard to try to make a difference."
Still, the good intentions have occasionally been eclipsed by drama — ex-wife Kris Jenner has made it clear she's not so happy with how she's been portrayed in Caitlyn's book. Still, Caitlyn insists the memoir was no smear effort, and that she was simply aiming to tell the truth.
"I feel like the book is extraordinarily honest. It is my perspective, and obviously when you do a book like that, there's different opinions," she said. "I have a lot of friends that know the truth and know what I've been through and know the whole situation."
"Hey, it's a reality show. It is drama," she added. "But you know I'm just kind of sorry she went down that road, but she's a good person and we've had 23 great years together and raised wonderful, phenomenal kids."
