UPDATE: Manhunt in Shooting of NYS Trooper in Colesville Ends. Suspect Arrested
New York State Police say the suspect who was at the center of an 18-hour manhunt following the shooting and wounding of a trooper June 9 is in custody.
34-year-old Jason D. Johnson was found along the riverbank off State Route 79 in Colesville just after 4:30 p.m. June 10. Johnson was taken into custody without further incident after being on the lam since the shots were fired about 8:36 the previous evening.
Seven-year New York State Police veteran, Trooper Becky Seager was shot in the hip after Troopers and Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a request to check on the welfare of a man.
Johnson fired a shotgun at authorities as he fled the scene and Seager was struck by gunfire. She was removed from the scene by a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy in the deputy's car then transported by ambulance to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. She was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday evening.
Troopers, during an 11 a.m. update, said law enforcement officers did exchange gunfire with Johnson before he fled the scene.

Authorities say Broome County Sheriff's Deputies and New York State Police responded to East Windsor Road in Colesville at 8:36 p.m. to check on the welfare of a person. During the course of that investigation, a New York State Trooper was shot by the suspect. State Police say the Trooper's injuries are non-life-threatening.

During the manhunt, residents were advised to stay inside with doors and windows locked. Outbuildings like sheds and barns as well as vehicles should also remain secured.
In a statement issued late in the afternoon June 10, State Police thanked all the supporting agencies who assisted and the public who called with tips.
