Suspect in State Police Shooting Charged With Attempted Murder

The Colesville man apprehended after the shooting and wounding of a New York State Trooper is being charged with First Degree Attempted Murder.

State Police say Jason Johnson was arraigned in Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing on two counts of felony attempted murder on June 11 and more charges are pending.

Johnson is accused of shooting Trooper Becky Seager in the hip area after authorities were called to West Windsor Road and Thorn Hill Road at around 8:30 p.m. June 9 for a report of a suspicious person. Authorities now say a second Trooper sustained a shrapnel injury during the exchange of gunfire with the suspect.

Johnson fled the scene and was at the center of a massive manhunt in northeastern Broome County that lasted about 20 hours.

Troopers received a tip and were able to get the New York State Police Aviation unit inn the air and, along with ground officers, were able to find Johnson along the banks of the Susquehanna River in Colesville at around 4:40 p.m. June 10. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Johnson is being held in the Broome County Jail without bail.

Trooper Seager was released from Wilson Hospital Thursday evening.
