A motorcyclist was killed when the bike he was operating went off a rural road north of Binghamton and crashed into a tree.

Authorities say 56-year-old Todd Blakeslee of Port Crane was pronounced dead at the scene.

Broome County sheriff's deputies were sent to Tunnel Road in the town of Colesville shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday when the crash was reported.

Investigators determined the motorcycle had been traveling north on Tunnel Road. They said Blakeslee was ejected from the bike when it went off the roadway and struck a tree.

According to a news release, alcohol was a factor in the crash.

It was the second motorcycle fatality in Broome County in less than a month. 31-year-old Christopher Caletka of Binghamton died in an April 27 crash at the Route 17/Interstate 81 interchange in Binghamton.
