Broome DA Reviewing Facts in Deadly Vestal Parkway Head-On Crash
Authorities say no charges have been filed in connection with a head-on collision on the Vestal Parkway that left a Johnson City husband and wife dead.
Vestal police say the investigation into the August 8 crash is continuing and no additional information can be released at this time.
57-year-old Alfred Latessa was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened between Murray Hill Road and Plaza Drive.
60-year-old Paula Latessa was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where she died a short time later.
Investigators said the Latessas were in a Nissan sedan that was traveling west on the parkway when it was struck by a Chevrolet Equinox driven by 31-year-old Stephan Moran of Binghamton.
Police said Moran was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the divided highway. He was treated at Wilson Medical Center following the collision.
The nighttime crash occurred in a work zone where the Greenway pedestrian and bicycle pathway is being constructed.
Vestal police have been assisted by the Broome County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police in various aspects of the crash investigation.
Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak said the case remains under investigation. In response to an inquiry from WNBF News, he wrote: "We are currently reviewing the case with the Vestal Police Department . If charges are filed, we will be making an announcement."
