You may have heard the term “Huntington's Disease” but unless it impacts you or someone you personally know, I’m going to guess that you’ve not really taken a minute to think about the disease and how it affects the lives of the 41,000 Americans who have it and the 200,000 more who are at a high risk of inheriting it from a parent.

Imagine being told that you’ve got a disease inside your body that will make you feel as though you’ve got ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer's all at the very same time and that what you have not only has no cure but that you will die from it because it is fatal.

Huntington’s Disease is all of that and more and is a reality for over 18,000 people in the state of New York who have been diagnosed with the disease. One of those New York residents is Ann Tripp. Sally Forbidussi, says, “Ann always has a smile on her face and no matter what the situation is, she knows that God is on her team.” Such a positive attitude even knowing what her outcome will most likely be.

Ann isn’t living this journey with Huntington’s Disease alone though. As a matter of fact, she has the support of her family and of the community and in her honor, a yearly walk was created to not only show Ann that our community loves her, but to raise awareness and funds for Huntington’s Disease.

The Binghamton Team Hope Walk and Ann’s 5K Race will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 beginning at 10:00 am at Otsiningo Park. All proceeds from the walk/run will support the Huntington’s Disease Society’s mission to improve the lives of those affected by Huntington's Disease as well as the lives of their family members.

Sally Forbidussi is the walk/run event coordinator and extends an invitation to our whole community saying, “Please join us to celebrate the people living with HD and honor those who have died from the disease. Together, we can spread awareness, raise money for the needed research, and hold onto that kite string for the cure!”
