In order to build a successful relationship, both partners have to want to make the relationship work, and doing so requires communication. Bustle, and Dr. Tabori Ildiko who is a clinical psychologist, explain that there are some awkward conversations that you may not like to have, but they are necessary to have with one another.

  • What counts as cheating as that can vary from person to person and relationship to relationship. While you might think that just talking to another person with intentions that are not-so-innocent is cheating to you, but your partner might say that as long as you don't have sex with someone else that you aren't cheating on them. It's good to know what you both consider as cheating to make sure no lines are crossed that shouldn't be crossed.
  • Discussions about finances which can definitely be scary and nerve wracking, but it is so important to know what your partner (and yourself) are bringing to the table in terms of finances. You might have college loan debt, they might have credit card debt, and you two can work together to figure out how to pay down those bills and start saving for your future.
  • Whether or not you want children as that can break a relationship instantly if you and your partner don't see eye to eye on growing a family. Don't expect that your partner will eventually change their mind on the matter either, otherwise you might just be wasting both your time and theirs.

Dating is tricky, but once you have some of these more awkward conversations, then you two will be better off to handle what else might come your way with your relationship.
