If you just started a relationship with someone else, you are probably feeling a whirlwind of great new feelings, but are you "in love" yet? Brit.Co has a few questions you can ask yourself before taking the plunge and telling your new significant other that you love them for the first time.

  • "What do these words mean to me?" You can love ice cream, you can love your dog, but what does it mean when you say those words to another person? You may want to sit down and think about what love really means to you and what it means to love someone else.
  • "What do I expect in return?" Think about the kind of response that you will get when you tell this other person that you love them. Will they react positively? Will you be surprised if they tell you that they're not there yet? Consider the consequences it will have on the relationship if you say it too soon.
  • "Do my thoughts and actions support this statement?" How do I treat the person that I want to tell that I love them? Can they tell from my actions, choices and thoughts that I feel this way? If not, try to express these feelings through your actions before saying it with your words.

Love is a tricky thing, and it's always tough if you're the first person in a new relationship to say those three words. I hope your new partner is feeling the same way that you are if and when you do decide to tell them that you love them.
