Ask our community for help, and our community always comes through with flying colors. We've seen it time and time again, especially with our annual Food-A-Bago food Drive for Broome County CHOW. And this year our community came through with a lot of non-perishable food and monetary donations.

Last month, I wrote an article about the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford, New York asking for cards and letters to be passed around to the veterans in the home. Well, our community answered the call again. And it was not just our community who answered the call with letters and cards.

A story about the call for cards and t for Veteran's Home in Oxford that was written in the Press & Sun-Bulletin, was picked up nationally by USA Today. So now that the entire country knew about the effort, the cards and letter came pouring in. The Press & Sun-Bulletin and USA Today report that about 3000 letters and cards were received from people all over the country.

On Thursday (November 12th) The Oxford Veteran's Home Facebook page noted how excited they were to receive so many letters and cards, and how much it meant to their veterans. I'm guessing they didn't expect such an outpouring of love and support.

It goes to show you that even in times like this with the pandemic and elections causing a lot of stress across our country, we can all stop and take a moment to realize what's really important. Thanks to all who sent in cards and letters to our veterans. It's because of them that we get to enjoy our freedom and way of life.
