Low Key Veterans Day in Southern Tier
There may be fewer public events being held for Veterans Day.
Owego veterans groups said they would be holding scaled-back observances at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month that had been Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, marking the end of World War One.
Owego is holding a wreath laying ceremony but the Memorial Hall is closed and other observances may be carried on social media. Officials are asking people to take time and think of creative ways to honor veterans.
Large gatherings are being discouraged during the coronavirus pandemic and areas in the micro-cluster Yellow Zone in Broome County are under regulations restricting gatherings to no more than 25 people.
Many government offices are closed along with banks and there is no mail delivery.
