Yellow Deli Shooting Suspect Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder

Twenty-three-year-old Travon Sanders, who was accused of shooting a Binghamton man sitting in his car outside a Binghamton delicatessen April 1, is admitting he intended to kill the 40-year-old victim.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office says Sanders has pleaded guilty to felony counts of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The shooting in front of the Yellow Deli on Susquehanna Street left Grady Hunter critically injured.  Hunter had been shot several times but authorities have not said what prompted the attack.

Prosecutors say Sanders had specifically targeted Hunter, shooting him with an illegally possessed 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

The Brooklyn man had turned down a plea deal offered last week. That offer would have sent Sanders to prison for ten years in exchange to pleading guilty to attempted murder.

Sanders is to be sentenced March 4. He's being held in the Broome County Jail.
