Woman’s Body Found in Creek Near Binghamton Home
Binghamton police are investigating the death of a woman whose partially clothed body was discovered in a creek.
The body was found in Bayless Creek near Ross Park on the city's South Side Thursday morning.
A man was walking along the rain-swollen creek a short distance from his home when he made the discovery around 7:50 a.m.
The resident told WNBF News he was about an eighth of a mile from his residence when he spotted what he initially thought might be an animal. He said as he walked closer, he realized it was the body of a woman, surrounded by logs.
The man said the woman appeared to be in her twenties. He said she was face up with her arms extended into the air. After he was certain she was not breathing, he headed home and called 911.
The man said he often walks along the creek, although he did not do so on Wednesday. He noted water in the creek was running quickly following afternoon and evening storms.
The body was located just inside the city, very close to the town of Binghamton line. Detectives spent hours at the scene looking for evidence.
It was not known whether an autopsy had yet been performed.
City police investigators did not return calls seeking comment on the investigation Thursday afternoon. Police chief Joseph Zikuski was not available to discuss the death investigation.
