$12 Million in Binghamton Infrastructure Work Planned

Binghamton is rolling into road-work season with plans for $12-million in infrastructure upgrades and repairs.

The plans call for works on dozens of streets including Bevier Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, Mary Street and Schubert Street.

Some streets will see full reconstruction while milling and paving is planed for 30 streets along with water and sewer upgrades and improvements to curbs and sidewalks.

The city is planning on spending close to two-million dollars for milling and paving, $6 million on full street reconstruction, $2.6 million for water and sewer upgrades and $1.7 million on curb and sidewalk upgrades.

Mayor Jared Kraham says the work is being funded through a combination of using Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program or “CHIPS” grants, Community Development Block Grant funds, federal stimulus dollars and money from a local capital bond.
