Woman Hurt When Vehicle Strikes Manure Spreader
A Tompkins County woman was seriously injured when the vehicle she was driving crashed into a manure spreader.
According to New York State Police, the crash happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday. A few minutes later, another vehicle struck the other vehicles that were stopped on Route 222 in the town of Groton.
Authorities say 41-year-old Jill Ashley Williams of Groton, the driver of the vehicle which initially hit the manure spreader, was taken by helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Troopers say Ashley Williams was extricated from her vehicle by members of the McLean Fire Department. The two other drivers were unhurt.
Investigators say the crashes apparently were caused by unsafe speed and glare from the sun.
Route 222 near Salt Road was closed for more than two hours for cleanup operations.
