The National Weather Service is warning most of New York State about the potential for a winter weather mess.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. January 7 to 7 a.m. January 8 with forecasters looking at mixed precipitation.

Ice accumulations of a light glaze and total snow accumulations of less than one inch are expected, but that could cause slippery travel conditions. Winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour can further complicate things for travelers.

The advisory includes Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Otsego, Tioga, Delaware and Sullivan counties in the Southern Tier and Central New York, but the advisory area covers most of New York State, except for the far eastern counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
