Officials are expecting heavy precipitation starting as rain and freezing rain in the morning, changing to accumulating snow starting mid-morning and continuing through midday.

Snowfall rates of one to two inches an hour are possible. The National Weather Service projects total snow accumulations to range on the low end of three to six inches in areas like Broome and Tioga Counties to up to a foot in areas to the north like Chenango County and into the Syracuse area.

A light glaze of ice is also forecast along with winds gusting as high as 40 miles per hour this afternoon.

The precipitation and wind could make travel very difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility in the afternoon and scattered power outages are possible.

As of 4 a.m. February 7, Delaware and Wayne Counties were only under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected.
