The National Weather Service is adjusting snowfall projections for the latest winter storm with higher accumulations expected east of Interstate 81.

Broome, Chenango, Tioga, Cortland, Susquehanna, and Bradford Counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 a.m. January 30 with a potential of up to 7 inches of snow.  Winds gusting over 35 miles an hour are possible and snow could fall at a rate of one-half to one inch an hour this afternoon and evening.

Delaware, Otsego and Wayne Counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until 1 a.m. January 30 with a chance for up to 10 inches of snow.  Snowfall rates of up to one inch an hour are possible with winds at 30 miles per hour.

Heaviest hit areas are expected to be in the Catskills and Poconos.

Motorists are cautioned to be aware of quickly changing conditions depending on location and the time of day.  Quickly falling snow combined with high winds could make for white-out conditions as well as slippery roads.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is also advising motorists to monitor forecasts and conditions.  Due to the potential for fast snowfall rates and accumulations, PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike are prohibiting empty tractor trailers and commercial vehicles pulling double trailers, recreational vehicles and motorcycles on interstates including I81 from I83 to the New York State line and the full length of Interstate 84 from I81 to the New York State line as well as the turnpike Northeast Extension. The restriction is in place until6 p.m. January 29th or until conditions warrant.
